Whenever I go away, I like to buy a Babushka doll. I don't know how that tradition came about, but now it's a nice little thing to do. The first isn't from my travels, but was a present from my mother. The second was my first Babushka doll that a bought on my 21st birthday from a little shop in Melbourne.
My favourite, is the third. He originally lived on Miyajima Island in Japan. This island is inhabited only by deer. They wander the streets, searching for silly tourists like me to feed them. The last doll, lives on a fob chain, that has been in my family for over 60 years.
As I mentioned in a previous post, my brother is moving to Denmark for seven months, he has kindly offered to buy me a few more for my collection!
What are your holiday traditions? I know the lovely Porcelain Blonde takes a candle with her whenever she travels.... (such a gorgeous tradition ♥)
These are adorable! I would love to go to Europe and buy myself a Babushka doll :)

I love these little dolls! I have one and am suddenly craving many more.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese one is so cute! Off the top of my head, I can't think of any holiday traditions :s
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love these dolls but alas don't have one.
ReplyDeleteI remember admiring them last year in jewellery form, when Chanel did that russian collection... so pretty!
And that island sounds like heaven, I adore deer - to have them roaming around, I'd fatten them up for sure :)
I really like the way you write. It's very natural and warm.
Ohh, and thanks for the shout out!
Hope your weekend is going great sweetie <3 xxx
I forgot to say! I tagged you with an award, see my I'm Over The Top post! :)

Cute stuff you got there!
ReplyDeleteI know! That's why I love it too Francy :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute, well the babushkas themselves, but the fact that you collect them from different places! What would you do about countries or cultures that don't have babushka dolls :D? Just curious really hehe I wish I collected something from places I visit... Once I decided I'd take pictures of toilets of countries I've been to but thankful returned to my senses before exploring for a very 'french' toilet.
ReplyDeleteMost of them are from countries where they are not usually available. I think that's why it's so fun, having to hunt them down :) That is such a cool thing to do with the toilets!
ReplyDeleteOh, Babushkas are one of my all time favorite things! How kind of your brother to offer to pick up a few new pieces for your collection.
ReplyDeleteFor me, whenever I'm on holiday, I like to buy a necklace. It makes me think of my travels whenever I wear it!! :)
ohh finaly i got to see them :-) lovely collection!
