I have a slightly embarrassing confession to make...I am 23 years old and do not have my drivers license. For the past six years I have renewed my learners three times and have had four driving instructors, each ending in disaster. The worst telling my that my driving would surely kill someone. My little heart sank to the peddle and the small amount of confidence I did have was completely quashed.
That happened eighteen months ago, I have decided to fix this situation and get my license this year. Usually nothing gets the better of me and driving certainly has. It's just something I do not have an affinity for, I forget which is the accelerator and brake, sweat so much my palms can hardly grip the wheel and dread my next lesson.
This year, it's going to happen, I will get my license!
If any of you have an tips for me to overcome this fear, please do share ♥
good luck!

love the photo!
ReplyDeleteThat's a terrible thing for the instructor to say!
ReplyDeleteI'm 28 and have been driving on my Ls for 5 months now, so you are waaaay ahead of me :) As someone who very recently was lurching about a car park, I think having a very patient teacher to talk you through star and stop in 1st gear is very helpful :)
Awwwh good luck with getting your license this year! I was TERRIBLE driver when I first started off- I failed the first time I sat for my test.. I drove too slowly, failed to give way, nearly drove into another car... But I tried a second time and got it!
ReplyDeleteI guess the one important thing to remember is to practice, practice, practice. But not only that - take your time, don't feel pressured when you are driving to go at the same speed as others. I spent a lot of my first few moments in the car on empty residential streets and built up my confidence there, before I tackled main roads. It might also help having a friend or a family member who is calm person who can help you!
Good luck and keep us updated! And more importantly, don't give up! :)
Thanks Mae and Esme, it's really nice to know that people care :) It's something that I really struggle with!
ReplyDeleteSadly I'm 30 and I still don't have my license. I tried to learn and I was awful and hated every second.
ReplyDeleteI've just decided some people were born to be driven.
I'm 29 and can't drive. My learners expired years ago, I haven't even tried to drive since I was 20. I will get around to it soon, I guess. good luck!
ReplyDeletethat was like me too in the beginning! but seriously with practice you will get there xoxox
ReplyDeleteI only got my license nearly 2 years ago, and I'm nearly 24... so don't feel too bad.
ReplyDeleteand you know what, I drive every day now, and I STILL hate it. seriously, driving is so so horrible, and everyone on the road are crazy maniacs who drive with their eyes shut and do not care about a thing! argh it is horrifying..
Are you doing an auto or a manual license? I did manual for ages and was awful and found it so hard, and then I tried auto and it's like driving a toy. So I switched to that, aced my drivers test, and have been much happier about driving.
Oh dear I have probably scared you from driving even further.. but as long as you practice a lot, and be super aware of all the nutters around you, you will be FINE! good luck! :)

Thanks for your advice :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going with auto Stompface, just switched and am finding it a lot easier, I'm still bad though!
good, you won't regret it. the way I look at it is, why bother with manual when you can drive auto! you'll be fine!
ReplyDeleteI live in Perth, we just had 3 days of above 40 degree heat!!! It was crazy!

haha i don't have mine either; but here in new york, i know a lot of people who don't since it's a pain to drive in the city & so much easier just taking the train or bus. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks Vivian :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I think about transport Audrey, I always have taken the train or bus, doesn't bother me. But apparently I'm still not "independent", even though I have lived out of home for six years.
Thank you Lola!!! I love this nail color!!!
ReplyDeletePS: love your name! :)
bye!!!

i have gotten my driver´s license a year ago but still never found the courage to drive alone. with my boyfriend i can, but alone, NO. i have this constant fear of killing someone. ahhhh. help. i hope you get yours this year and if you do overcome your fear, share.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had advice for you - but I could use some advice myself. I do have my driver's license, but I dread driving. I drive when I have to, but am tense the whole time and hate it. And the highway - forget it!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost 23 and dont drive either. I started learning but kind of admitted defeat for a while and now I just cant afford it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mode :) That's my fear, hurting someone :(
ReplyDeleteThat's the same as me lifestyle, I am so tense the entire time and the highway is really freaking me out!
Oh Daisychain, I know how expensive it can be! That's why I saved for the cheapest car I could afford, so I didn't have to pay $50 each for an hour lesson.
Ah, I'm 26 and I still don't have my license! I can technically drive, but I just have been so lazy when it comes to persisting with lessons and tests.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 16, I was in a car accident with some friends. The driver was a girl who had gotten her license just weeks earlier, and while nobody was hurt, it was a terrifying experience seeing another car hurtling towards you and I've been a bit skittish of driving and cars generally since then.
Adding to that an ex-boyfriend who forced me to learn to drive a manual (stupid idea) and a general lack of coordination on my part, and I've just had this mental block when it comes to driving. That, and my mother is a terrible driver!

That sounds terrble! Well I definitely can't drive, I'm terrible. I didn't have any bad experiences, I'm just a really anxious driver :(
ReplyDeleteI hear you! I got the licence 4 years ago but didn't drive very much, I'm just not to good at it and it's very frustrating for a person that can usually do everything quite good:). I think we have to practice and practice and don't give up!:)
ReplyDeleteI have a fear of driving as well after an accident. I am going to get my full license October this year and I haven't driven for a year or so. Every time a car comes into the outer corner of my eyes, I flinched even when I am the passenger.
ReplyDeleteVery bad. :(
